Starting a new series, taking my shot at some predictions for the 2012 season. My first installment is a look at the Patriots division, i mean the AFC East. Seems like year after year the Patriots just dominate this division and Jets being their only competition, enter 2012 and a newly looked Buffalo Bills and their stingy defense. Bills are my dark horse AFC team to make the playoffs and give Patriots a tough time winning the East. I believe the Dolphins are in semi-rebuilding mode and questionable QB play and inexperienced WR’s will hurt them all season long, their defense is solid but it’ll only hold for so many games. I see the Jets taking a step back as well, and you got to think this year has to be make it or break it for Sanchez. So, with that here are my AFC East Prediction.
|NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS||11||5|
|NEW YORK JETS||8||8|
Patriots : Was it a surprise that the Patriots were winning this division? Some of their key losses come @BAL @SEA @BUF and vs HOU (this should be a great game). Brady has his work cut out for him against some stingy defenses and great secondaries (Seahawks) that will cause fits. With the addition of Brandon Lloyd to help stretch the field will only make Patriots passing game more lethal. I expect the defense to rebound as their secondary should remain healthy and the emergence of Brandon Spikes and the solid LB corps. Their week 15 game at home against the 49ers should get them playoff ready, they’ll roll over Jaguars and Dolphins in weeks 16 & 17.
Bills : I got the Bills winning 10 games, yes 10 games. With the addition of Mario Williams and the drafting of Stephen Gilmore and development of Kelvin Sheppard, this defense is ready to shine as they’ll wreck havoc on opponents. Question is Fitzpatrick and if he can have another solid year, Steve Johnson has to remain healthy and the continued development of CJ Spiller.
Jets : The Jets finish the 2012 season with a disappointing 8-8 showing, the confusion at QB whether or not to play Sanchez or Tebow, a non-impact running game and questionable WR’s after Holmes. We see Stephen Hill struggle and their defense once again not stopping the run. Rex may look like a new figure, but his team will struggle. Games @PIT vs SF vs HOU @SEA and vs SDC will definitely test them along with the match-ups against the Patriots.
Dolphins : The Dolphins who are in rebuild mode as I have them having a top 5 pick in 2012. Their fans will have to be patient this season, their defense will help them keep em’ in games but QB is the big question, can Tannehill become what they expect or did they waste another high pick? Some may say Dolphins will win more than 3 games, rightfully so, any given Sunday. But I have them starting off 0-5 as I don’t see them beating the Texans, Raiders, Jets, Cardinals and Bengals to start the season.
